Can I safely remove the gas plug out of my semi-auto shotgun?

I have a Mossberg 930 semi auto shotgun. I cant use the slug gun in PA because of the semi auto. Can I safely hunt with the gas plug out to make it a manual reload? Please only knowledgeable answers as I don’t want to end up like Elmer Fudd. Thanks in advance.

before the shooting why were they not metel dectors set up, and that many killed why not smoke guns or gas was their not a reload more questions to point out, and did no one hear the first two being killed.
